The seat of the county of Santa Comba Dão, located on the right bank of the river Dão amid extensive pine woods, is characterized by the harmonious town's layout, with small squares, medieval alleys and fine houses with porches on the verandas and galleries.

It is worth admiring the picturesque central square of
Largo do Rossio, surrounded by noble houses, the Baroque Mother Church, the pillory ending in a triangular cone and the
Casa dos Arcos manor (both from the 17th century), and also the Romanesque bridge over the Hortas stream.

The area is essentially agricultural, with vast stretches of forest and vineyards producing the well-known wines of the Dão demarcated region, but tourism has been slowly developing thanks to the construction of the Aguieira Dam, offering beautiful sceneries and the possibility of enjoying water sports and fishing at the artificial lake.

The village of Ovoa displays an interesting 17th-century pillory and the Mother Church, built in 1725.

There are other fine pillories at Treixedo, a village surrounded by beautiful valleys and wooded hills, and at Couto do Mosteiro, where remains of an ancient Moorish settlement have been found on the left bank of the river Criz.

In terms of gastronomy, the county of Santa Comba Dão offers traditional specialities such as
sarrabulho (a dish made with pig blood and suet), or
lampreia à foz do Dão (stewed lamprey), which may be accompanied by the region's excellent wines.
